Improving barrel racing times starts with honest logs, not random drills. Capture every practice and show run, spot which barrel costs you tenths, then design the next week’s schooling around that weak spot.
Measure before you overhaul
Riders who “feel slower” are often guessing. Two weeks of logged times in Arena Time give you a baseline PB, average, and variance. Without that, you’ll change three things at once and learn nothing.
Isolate the expensive barrel
If first is sticky but third is clean, stop blaming the whole pattern. School approach and rate for the weak barrel, then re-time a full pattern so the drill transfers.
Close the loop each week
Pick one focus (rate, pocket, leave). Log midweek practices and the weekend jackpot. Compare to last week’s average — not to someone else’s Instagram highlight.
