At minimum track date, horse, event, time, penalties, and a one-line note. Optional: footing, weather, and GPS practice overlays. More fields only help if you’ll review them.
The minimum viable log
If you only ever fill five fields, make them the ones above. Empty elaborate templates die in week two.
- Date/time
- Horse
- Event
- Result time
- Note
Useful extras
Footing (deep/slick), who timed you, and whether it was a money run. Those explain outliers later.
Noise to skip
Don’t invent twenty custom metrics on day one. Add a field only after you’ve wished you had it three times.
